Madison Edgewood goaltender Brad Jerzewski

First day of WIAA hockey is Over!

The First Game on the books between Mosinee and Madison Edgewood started with a two goal lead by Edgewood, Mosinee's Kevin Radtke scored late in the first to make it a one goal game.   Then Edgewood’s Corey Strang who had a point in each of Edgewood’s goals lit the lamp to make it 3-1 Edgewood. Mosinee looked defeated after Edgewod scored another two unanswered goals to close out the second period. The third period was exciting with the resurgence of the Mosinee team in purple. Kevin Radtke took the game and showed how he is clutch by feeding Ethan Nauman to put the second goal on the scoreboard for Mosinee. Kevin Radtke then scored two more unanswered goals to make it a one game goal late in the third, with Mosinee never giving up to Edgewood the thriller almost was tied as Edgewood goaltender  Brad Jerzewski initially mishandled the final shot which traveled from the side of Mosinee’s goal for a shot on goal against Edgewood.
Congrats to Madison Edgewood but also congrats to Mosinee for not giving up!

Game 2

Appleton co-op and Wisconsin Rapids started the game with Rapids setting the tone early using their physical style. Appleton didn’t recluse, instead they fought back to show their speed on the puck when Dustin Klitzke made Rapids pay for taking an early hooking minor. Appleton would score again in the first period. The second period looked better for Rapids as they held Appleton to no goals but the problem was Rapids couldn’t generate any offense either. The third period belonged to Appleton who took it to them and scored two unanswered goals to send Wisconsin Rapids home eager for next year.

Game 3

Janesville Parker-Craig came in with thoughts of upsetting tournament favorite Eau Claire Memorial. Nate Verbracken of Eau Claire scored a big goal in the middle of the first period. The second period was a defensive game with no goals. The third period looked better for Janesville until Ben Kincaid hammered one home in just 42 seconds into the third period. Janesville's Ross Mauermann tried to lift his team with his goal coming at 11:16 into the third. Then Nate Verbracken of Eau Claire drove the dagger in deeper by scoring in the last 5 minutes to make it 3-1

Game 4

Superior struck first blood with an early goal with 2:49 into the first. Then University school’s goal by Billy Crimmins rejuvenated the crowd. Then they traded goals until the 3rd period. The third opened with John LeDoux of Superior scoring early in the third. Milwaukee University school didn’t give up and scored two unanswered goals to send the game to overtime. With 2 minutes into OT Superiors John LeDoux showed he was clutch to end the game.
