Madison Edgewood vs. Appleton United
Game 1 at Alliant Energy Center was what fans hoped for. Madison Edgewood played Appleton United tough from the start. Defense was the highlight of the first period with each team going scoreless in the first. The 2nd period looked to be more of the same until Madison’s Cody Strang scored the games first goal near the midway point of the hockey game. Robert Parman of Madison let the air out of Appleton United’s sail by putting another goal past Appleton’s Josh Lehr within a minute and 5 seconds of the first tally mark. The third period looked good when Appleton scored two unanswered goals by Patrick Hunter and Matt Paape. Madison Edgewood then scored the go ahead goal 76 seconds later to win the game on the stick of Gage Maurer’s unassisted goal.
Congrats to Appleton on their fine season, Madison Edgewood came out with same desire they showed all year to advance to the championship round.
Eau Claire Memorial vs. Superior
Bout 2 on the game card was everything you could ask for in a playoff game. Eau Claire the tournaments favorite was strong on the puck from the get go when Jefferson Dahl put the puck past Superior’s Kyle Johnson just 38 seconds in. Pat Dalbec of Superior scored the tying goal about 13 minutes later to end the 1st period’s offensive push.
The 2nd looked similar to the 1st when Eau Claire’s Shayne McLaughlin scored the go ahead goal and then Superior answered back with the persistent effort of Noah Gilbertson, but Eau Claire wouldn’t sit back and watch their season unravel so Ryan Falch’s goal turned out to be the game winner. Superior showed great heart when they pulled their goalie while with a man down situation. Eau Claire’s Mike Miettunen then took advantage of Superiors empty net to send them home until next year.
Great job on the season for Superior just a tough way to end it.
Eau Claire Memorial will play Madison Edgewood on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. central standard time for the CHAMPIONSHIP.
Good Luck to them both.
