Eau Claire memorial defeats Madison Edgewood to go 26-0

Wisconsin Undefeated State Champs

Alliant Energy Center at 2:30 p.m. on a Saturday would be the perfect setting to crown the 2008 boys hockey state champs. The mood was set by the WIAA girls’ hockey championship which concluded with the Mosinee coop team wining it all in a very forceful fashion. Great job girls! Now was the match up which was almost predetermined before this year’s tournament began in Madison. Eau Claire came in the heavy favorite and took care of their first two opponents in an orderly fashion. Now was the day they waited for since last year, the final game in the Wisconsin high school hockey tournament. The only team who could ruin the ideal season on paper also made quick work in the previous two rounds was going to meet them Madison Edgewood, a team who’s go to man was showing true heart by play hurt Cody Strang.

The mood was set and when they dropped the puck both teams looked great defensively. Eau Claire took the leading edge over Madison in the first period when Ryan Falch scored halfway through the first on the power play. Madison then played well defensively but came up short in the offensive zone. The second period was different though Madison started sloppy and Eau Claire’s Jefferson Dahl setup Hunter Scott to make Madison pay for it. Madison responded with the support of their fans and shut down Eau Claire for the rest of the 2nd period but still couldn’t find their offensive fire.
The 3rd period was all Eau Claire whose leading point getter in this year’s tournament Jefferson Dahl scored to put the game away at 6.57 in the 3rd. Madison Edgewood’s Cody Strang stole the shutout from Eau Claire Memorials Brady Sand. It was a great job for Eau Claire who took the championship with an undefeated season.

Eau Claire finished 26-0

Madison Edgewood finished 23-3
